Desert perspectives (October)

What is a desert?

Are deserts always hot?

We discovered that the definition of a desert is any place that receives less than 25cm of rain per year.

There are deserts on every continent...which means that deserts don't have to be hot! The world's largest deserts are in the Arctic and Antarctic.

The Gobi Desert reaches temperatures of -40 degrees!

We then looked at the Silk Route across the Taklamakan Desert - camels were the only beasts who could carry the traders across the vast desert. We identified how the camels have adapted to a life in the desert.

Following all of our amazing discoveries, we created images of the desert using oil pastel!
