Remembrance Service Led by Swallows 11/11/2019

The children worked hard preparing to lead the Remembrance Service this year. They looked at texture and created red and black paper to create their own poppies as well as a wreath for the church display.  We spent some time learning about the symbolism of a poppy and why they are worn in a certain position.

As a class they adapted a poem called A Candle by Saadi Youseff and wrote some of the lines differently to make it fit with Remembrance day. The poem can be found below. I am sure anyone that joined us at the Service will agree the children read beautifully and did Yattendon proud!

A Candle

A candle for the soldiers

A candle for the families

A candle for the children

A candle for the animals

A candle for the doctors and nurses.

A candle for the wounded

A candle for the pain.

A candle for the frontline

A candle for the home front.

A candle for the broadcasters in a shelter

A candle for a fresh water.

A candle for the air

A candle for change.

A candle for the beginning

A candle for the end

A candle for conscience

A candle in my hand
