Shakespeare in the woods!

To contribute to the Woodland Trust Award, we spent an exciting afternoon in our woodland classroom!

We began by investigating William Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. Having looked at the overall plot, we discovered that the group of characters named the 'Mechanicals' (Quince, Starveling, Bottom, Snout, Snug and Flute) went to the enchanted wood outside Athens to rehearse a play.

We experimented with methods of delivering lines from Shakespeare and rehearsed a scene between Quince and Bottom. We then went to the woodland classroom to perform it!

Whilst in the woodland classroom, we created homes for the fairy King and Queen (Oberon and Titania). We used sticks, bark, moss and leaves to make dining tables, cups, dance floors, enclosures and pathways!

We also collected a wide range of autumn leaves and admired their stunning colours!

On our return to school, we completed detailed drawings and leaf rubbings of our specimens. We then identified each leaf and made observations about each of our finds.
