Wooden World Workshop (October)

Nelson's Wooden World

Today, we explored the world of the wooden battle ships used by Nelson in the Battle of Trafalgar.

We considered what life was like for the men on the ships.

We acted out various different jobs that would be carried out on board, such as scrubbing the decks, hoisting the sails and clinging on tightly in a storm! Then we explored how teams of sailors would load and fire the guns.

I learnt how Nelson died and what his boat was called. I really enjoyed learning how to fire the cannon!

In the workshop, I learnt how to launch a cannon ball. I really enjoyed doing the drama - I was 'dead Nelson'!

Something I learnt was about all of the rules on the ship. I really enjoyed finding out how to load a cannon!

I really enjoyed the workshop because it was all about history and geography!
