  • SCHOOL VIDEO LAUNCHED!

    Fri 30 Sep 2016

An exciting new video is launched today (30 September), which aims to capture the unique essence of Yattendon Church of England Primary School. The two-minute programme throws open the gates of the pretty rural school and offers a snapshot of learning across everything from phonics to Religious Education and computing to maths. It also covers some of the many enrichment opportunities at the dynamic little school.

A cameraman followed pupils for a day, from classroom to playground, and from sports field to the school’s outdoor classroom in the local woods. The brief was to bring to life the school’s strapline: Launching pupils into a bright future – inspired and independent.

“We particularly wanted to capture the warm, nurturing feel that so many of our families appreciate,” says Headteacher Rachel Manley. “It’s a small school where pupils of all ages interact and learn from each other. But we pride ourselves on offering big opportunities – from external sporting activities, to public speaking. The video aims to give a taste of our ethos, and encourages parents of potential pupils to come and take a first-hand look.”

The video is being launched to parents today at one of the school’s regular Celebration Assemblies. A link is also being sent to individuals and organisations within the local community,  encouraging them  to share with their own networks.

  • A Berkshire Show win!

    Sun 25 Sep 2016
We are excited to announce that we won a 4th prize rosette and plaque for our ‘Learning Outside the classroom’ display at the Royal County of Berkshire Show. I know many of you visited the Show and will have seen our impressive display which was a genuine reflection of the value we place on outdoor learning. The display focused on our bee garden work which was created during Science Week in June. We may ask for 2 tables next year!
  • New sports equipment

    Fri 16 Sep 2016

It has been super to be on our field this week. Our equipment from Sainsbury’s vouchers has arrived and we now have a fantastic ball pump, so no more flat balls! We also have a class set of foam javelins, new hoops and an orienteering set. I met with a lady from Berkshire Orienteers over the break and she is designing us an orienteering map and set of circuits for school use. This will provide an extra opportunity throughout the school for children to develop these ‘Outdoor Adventurous’ skills.

We have also received a Paralympic Challenge Kit from Sainsburys. This includes resources that have inspired challenges in athletics, boccia, goalball and sitting volleyball.

  • What is learning?

    Fri 09 Sep 2016
Several times during the school year, we enjoy working in our House teams across the school to focus on an area of the curriculum. At the start of the year, we begin with a ‘What is Learning?’ focus. Our new House Captains had their first opportunity to show their leadership skills as they led their whole team on Wednesday. Teams selected two of our eight school learning cogs and thought about how that could be demonstrated in school. The children had some brilliant ideas and worked very hard together to create some stunning learning cogs. These are on display in our Hall and will go up in each classroom to be referred to during learning.
