Welcome
Welcome to our small and friendly village school. We have enthusiastic pupils and staff, who are passionate about engaging in rich learning experiences.
Welcome to
Yattendon C of E Aided
Primary School
A small school with a big vision
.
A school RE Day was led by an organisation called Barnabus, which ran a captivating assembly about ‘Christians around the World’. Throughout the day, each class had a session with Jane who had visited churches all around the world. Our favourite part was looking at different types of crosses from around the world.
On a similar note, six of our new Year 5 Worship Leaders ventured to All Saints Church in Bucklebury on Thursday for a day of workshops and training. They had a fantastic day working with children from other local schools and experienced workshops through the day. They created super worship tables, converted a psalm into a song to perform, wrote prayers and used drama to act out the story of the ‘Lost Sheep’. They will now introduce some of their ideas into our Collective Worship at school.
Hummingbirds enjoyed a 'roarsome' dinosaur day just before the Christmas holidays as part of their Wild Earth topic. The ambitious aims of the day were to create a museum of Dinosaur facts and objects of interest, and for the children to become tour guides for their museum. The children learned what a museum was and what the different areas would be in Yattendon Dinosaur Museum. The children then completed four activities with an adult, which included comparing the shell of an ankylosaurus with Mrs Keene’s tortoise Tallulah. They also fitted in drawing an outline of a full sized Stegosaurus!
We will be holding an Open Morning for prospective parents on Wednesday 17th October from 9:30am - 11:30am, with a talk from the Head Teacher at 10:30am.
We look forward to meeting you.
We are delighted with the final Ofsted report from the inspection that took place last term. We maintained our ‘Good’ rating, and the inspector was satisfied that Safeguarding is effective.
Some particular strengths highlighted were:
• Good leadership that sets high ambitions for pupils and staff
• Hard work and positive attitudes are valued
• Strong sense of community and teamwork
• Parents consider staff to be helpful, caring and approachable
• Pupils feel well cared for and that learning is fun
• Staff improve their practice continually
• Pupils make strong progress, for example in Phonics
• Staff are committed to meeting the needs of every pupil
• Governors know the school well and have a deep understanding of its strengths and weaknesses.
We were particularly pleased to hear how happy parents are with their children’s education, and the children’s eagerness to learn also came across strongly: ‘Pupils’ approach to learning and their conduct continue to be exceptionally positive.’
Our one area for development was in challenging high achieving pupils more, through probing questions that require them to think deeply about their work. Our School Development Plan clearly sets out a comprehensive action plan to improve in this area, and we will continue to make this a priority. We are investing in a number of training courses around greater depth, as well as working with other schools to share best practice.

Dear parents,
Thank-you so much for your efforts today. I have decided to close the school tomorrow due to the weather and road conditions.
Pupils are expected to complete some school work to ensure we don't have to do an additional day. Teachers will be putting some work up on the class pages.
Have a safe few days. See you Monday,
Mrs. Manley
