Christian Vision and Values

A small school with a BIG vision

Our Christian vision

Our small school is the rich soil that enables our community to develop deep roots to flourish; nurturing values of courage, hope and respect.

Matthew 13 v23

Some fell on good earth and came up with a flourish, producing a harvest exceeding his wildest dreams.

(The Message)

Our vision, established in 2018, is embedded within our ethos and underpins our daily provision. It draws inspiration from the Parable of the Sower, particularly relevant to our rural context.

Our school is the good ground that allows all who come into contact with it to grow well. Its seeds (pupils, staff and community) are given a rich diet to thrive into the best ‘plant’ possible. Our seeds are cared for during all ‘seasons’, given support and protection when it is needed and encouragement and opportunities to flourish. The plants become strong and resilient, able to live peacefully and spiritually with those around them. Everyone is prepared and ready for the next stage of their journey, reflecting a rich harvest from the 'good soil' it has grown in.

Our vision is underpinned by our three core Christian values of hope, respect and courage which we explore through Collective Worship each term.

Yattendon Estate is a diverse farming and property business situated in the heart of West Berkshire, covering over 9,000 acres of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a place that values traditional ethos and sense of community. The Estate is home to over 750 people with some 330 people working on businesses based in and around Yattendon. http://www.yattendon.co.uk/

Our School Prayer

Dear Lord

Thank you for our education and for making learning fun at Yattendon Primary School.

Thank you for the respectful friendships we have made and for the teachers who help prepare us for God's big world.

Thank you that we are able to offer hope to those who are not as fortunate as we are.

Please fill us with courage and keep us safe. happy and healthy.

Let every day be a good day.

Amen

Our church community!

It’s a great pleasure to have recently taken up the role of Rector for the Hermitage Team of churches which includes the church of St Peter and St Paul in Yattendon. I’ve been in ministry in the Church of England for ten years and have held posts just up the road in Thatcham and to the east of the county in Maidenhead.

One of the aspects of the role that I have always enjoyed is working with our local schools. Whether it is taking assemblies or welcoming schools into our churches, supporting the children in any community I am part of is always high up on my agenda. In the last few years, I’ve taken this interest further and have been studying for my doctorate, researching how children can be supported spiritually in school as they explore their big questions about life.

I have two young children of my own and we now live in Hermitage where they are enjoying lots of space to run around and getting to know the community alongside me! It’s been a pleasure to start to get to know the community at Yattendon School and I look forward to many more opportunities.

We also love our visits from Nigel Gordon-Potts who is the Pastor at Goring Free Church. Before his studies he had worked in the world of accountancy, both in practice here in the UK and training others in West Africa through Tearfund, having come to faith himself as a teenager.

Nigel brings Scruff, his puppet dog, to help the children understand messages in Collective Worship.
