Intent of our English curriculum, provision and enrichment

The intent of our English curriculum is to develop deep knowledge and understanding of reading, writing and oracy, through a variety of genres and a diverse range of writers. Within discrete and cross curricular contexts, they will have opportunities to explore, experiment and refine the skills of an effective reader and writer. It will allow children to express themselves and communicate in a variety of different ways. They will flourish as creative and curious readers and writers showing a keen sense of wonder and enrich their understanding of the world.

Inclusivity

  • Valuing every child as a unique individual, teaching and learning will be adapted to ensure equitable provision, representing all protective characteristics.

Social, Moral and Spiritual and Cultural development

  • Within our English curriculum we explore and make connections with a balance of spiritual, moral, social and cultural aspects in order to prepare our children for life in modern Britain and our diverse world.

Progression of knowledge

We have created comprehensive documents which include our whole school curriculum progression for English. The school uses the threshold concepts of the Chris Quigley curriculum to form its subject progression.
